Welcome to Judith Magrill Psychology Services
At this practice, a wide range of specialized psychological assessments are tailored to support individuals of all ages. The comprehensive evaluations are designed to provide a deep understanding of each person’s social, emotional, behavioural, and academic functioning. Beginning with your questions, insights, and lived experiences, we work collaboratively to create a new informed understanding of your profile that identifies both strengths and areas of concern. From there, clear personalized recommendations are suggested to help guide meaningful progress. Together, we’ll chart a path forward — one that opens doors and supports the future you want.

A comprehensive autism evaluation includes a diagnosis, if autism is present, and offers a personalized look into an individual's social, emotional, and behavioural profile. If relevant, mental health issues associated with autism are assessed, including but not limited to, anxiety, selective mutism and depression.

FAQs
Why do an expert private assessment?
Research is clear that earlier assessment and interventions are likely to lead to more positive long-term outcomes for the client. With an expert private assessment, you can also expect shorter wait times and a flexible assessment availability that works for your schedule.
Are services available to those outside of Metro Vancouver?
Yes. Any client who lives in British Columbia and is available for in-person testing can be assessed.
How long is your waitlist?
I am currently able to book new clients for an assessment within 6 months.
What is the timeline of the assessment?
Each type of assessment usually takes 2 days. Two morning and two afternoon appointment sessions across two days will be arranged. For example, an autism and a psychoeducational assessment together can take 4 days or more to complete. Clients or parents/legal guardians can expect to receive the final written report within 2 months of the completed assessment. Note that the length of the assessment depends on the complexity of the needs.
How much does an assessment cost?
An autism assessment costs $4,000, and a psychoeducational assessment costs $3,300. For an extra fee, an additional Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) evaluation can be completed at the same time as the original assessment requested. It is important to keep in mind that the listed prices include all review of relevant educational, medical and treatment records, questionnaires, interviews with the client and parent(s)/legal guardian(s)/caregiver(s), in-person observation and assessment of the client, data compilation, feedback and report writing time. No sliding scale for fees is available at this time.

What form of payment is accepted?
Payment is accepted by e-transfer only and is to be paid in three instalments after each completed stage of the service provided (information gathering/interview, testing, feedback/report writing). An itemized receipt will be provided for insurance reimbursement, if needed.
Do you accept grants or extended health benefits?
The autism and psychoeducational assessments are completely paid for by the client or the parent/legal guardian and then if covered, reimbursed partially or fully by their extended health insurance plan. Most extended healthcare insurers cover registered psychologist services. Please check limits with your provider. For private autism assessments, depending on the age of the child, a parent/legal guardian may be able to access partial funds through a charity, such as Variety BC. After an autism diagnosis has been made, charities such as CKNW Kids' Fund have applications which could help support therapeutic interventions.
Do you need a referral from a doctor?
Some insurance companies may require a medical doctor’s referral in order to claim extended health insurance benefits. The parent intake and feedback sessions may be billed under a parent’s name (provided they are in attendance), with the remainder of the receipts going under the child’s name, as some extended health plans cover a certain amount for each family member. It is the client’s responsibility to check first with their extended health insurer to understand the specific coverage that is permitted.
If the parents are separated or divorced, do both parents need to provide consent for services?
Yes. If parents are separated or divorced, both parents are required to understand the nature of the requested psychological services and provide their signed consent to proceed if they share joint legal custody/guardianship. If one parent has legal documentation showing they have sole decision-making right to make medical and educational decisions for their child, only that parent’s consent is required.
What areas are exclusionary to your practice?
The following services are not available at this practice. A referral to a professional with the appropriate expertise will be made to support the presentations below:
-
Individual or group therapy for mental health disorders.
-
Assessment for speech, motor, and tic disorders.
-
Concerns in regard to hearing and speech challenges. Please see an audiologist and a speech-language pathologist first.
-
Concerns regarding vision. Please see an optometrist or an ophthalmologist first.
-
Assessment for personality disorders, psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar conditions, dementia, or eating disorders.
What is the cancellation policy?
For a psychoeducational or autism assessment, considerable time has been specifically reserved for the client. If you no longer require an assessment, the psychologist requires at least 2 weeks’ notice (10 business days) to cancel the assessment in its entirety so that those appointment times can be offered to other clients. Notice must be provided by phone or email during regular office hours.
In cases where a client misses an appointment (is a no show) or fails to provide notice before the two-
week time frame, the client will be invoiced and charged a cancellation fee of $500.
A 5- to 10-minute extended grace period is permitted; however, late arrivals may impact subsequent appointments for other clients, and the planned session may be shortened as a result. Please organize your arrival for the in-person assessment to be on time.
Emergencies and Exceptions: In the event of a sudden illness or medical emergency, fees may be waived at the registered psychologist’s discretion upon receipt of a brief medical note by a physician. Any other exceptions,
such as a family crisis, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
